The Quebec government is set to make a decision about the installation of more photo radars in the province today. Transport Minister Pierre Moreau has expressed his support for the pilot project, which has been underway for three years. According to Radio-Canada, more photo radars will be installed in Quebec City for a year and a half before deciding if the measure should be extended to all municipalities. The city of Montreal is clarifying the role of engineering consulting firm Dessau in the redesigning of Montreal’s electoral map. The firm won the bid for the $801,908 contract but the city says Yves Saindon, Montreal’s city clerk and elections president, will have the final word. Dessau is one of the firms that made up the consortium of the controversial water meter contract. Opposition members expressed their objection to the hiring at Monday’s council meeting. The coroner’s report (PDF) following a fire in Côte-des-Neiges last year was released and points out that a problem with the fire department’s dispatch system caused a critical delay. Firefighters were delayed when dispatch operators sent duplicate calls to two fire stations. When the dispatchers realized their mistake, they recalled the fire fighters who were closest to the scene of the fire. Two people died in the fire. The NDP’s has grown in Quebec. According to membership numbers released by the party, they gained more than 10,000 members in Quebec since the beginning of the leadership race in October. Before the race began, only 1,695 people in Quebec were members: now the total has risen to 12,266. Party membership rose across the board in Canada.
