Jay Baruchel's Goon premieres in Montreal tonight
It’s no secret that Montreal-native and Hollywood actor Jay Baruchel is a huge Canadiens fan. Now he has taken his love of hockey to the silver screen.
Goon, which features American Pie’s Stifler ( Seann William Scott) in the main role, is a comedy about a man down on his luck who becomes a minor league hockey enforcer. Quebec actor Marc-André Grondin also stars in the film. Baruchel also has a role in the film but his major contribution was writing the screenplay, alongside Superbad’s Evan Goldberg. He is also a producer. The movie is set to hit theatres on Friday.
Baruchel spoke to the Montreal Gazette’s Brendan Kelly about the film:
“It’s a really hard thing to make a movie. A lot of things have to go right… The one thing that never changed was my gut, pure-blood connection to this material, to this story, to these characters… Had we just made the movie and nobody cared about it, at least I would’ve seen these characters from my heart and my mind rendered flesh and blood for a period. But the thing is coming out and people are psyched to see it and there’s such overwhelming love, there’s no way it gets better than this.”
Baruchel will be speaking at the Ste-Catherine St. Apple store, alongside director Michael Dowse, today at 4:30 p.m. The red carpet premiere is also tonight at the AMC Theatre.
