Got some corruption to report? Charbonneau commission wants to know
In an attempt to get more information from the public, the Charbonneau commission – the public inquiry charged with looking into allegations of corruption in Quebec’s construction industry – has launched a website.
In a ten-minute video, Justice France Charbonneau explains the mandate of the inquiry and why it's important for them to receive input from the public. From the video (translated):
“Since this public inquiry was created, in large part due to your request, it is both useful and essential to have you, the members of the public, contribute to our work… If you are aware of questionable practices related to the granting or administration of construction contracts at your municipality, hospital, school, school board, ministry, public or parapublic organization, a crown corporation or private firm, it is essential you inform us as soon as possible.”
The site is not just to appeal to citizens, it is also meant to inform them about the public inquiry. Included are the regulations surrounding the inquiry, who is involved and in what capacity, as well as deposited documents and reports (yet to be uploaded). The site is only available in French.
A telephone line has been set up for citizens to call in with information at 1-855-333-CEIC (2342) or they can email info@ceic.gouv.qc.ca.
