Couch surfing leads to death of 22-year-old Beauce man
A dangerous stunt ended with the death of a 22-year-old man this weekend. His best friend has been charged with dangerous driving causing death and fleeing the scene.
A group of friends from the Beauce region hitched a couch to a truck in a stunt known as “couch surfing” (not to be confused with sleeping on a stranger’s couch while travelling) this weekend. Unfortunately, the driver of the van doing the towing lost control and the couch slid into an incoming vehicle.
A quick search on YouTube shows more than one video of others attempting the stunt.
This seems to be the first reported death in Quebec from couch surfing but another popular stunt has reared its head in the province: that of car surfing. Car surfing involves standing on the hood or roof of a moving vehicle.
In September, a 20-year-old woman from Toronto was badly injured when she attempted to car surf in Brossard. In the same month, a Sûreté du Québec officer was filmed car surfing.
