Quebecers choose Steve Jobs as businessman of the year
According to a poll conducted by Leger Marketing for QMI Agency, Quebecers chose Steve Jobs by an overwhelming majority as the businessman of the year for 2011. Jobs, who died on Oct. 5, received 43 percent of the overall vote.
Quebecor President and CEO Pierre Karl Péladeau came second with 21 percent. Péladeau was in the news a lot in 2011 because of his crusade to build a new hockey arena in Quebec City, potentially bringing an NHL team back to the city. Just last week, news broke that several organizations involved in the deal — including Quebecor — failed to register as lobbyists when negotiating for the contract.
Also included in the list of businessmen of the year were Cirque de Soleil founder Guy Laliberté, American investor Warren Buffett and pharmacy mogul Jean Coutu.
